NAVTEQ Selected by MetroPCS As Preferred Map Provider
Traffic and mapping information vendor, NAVTEQ has announced an agreement with US based mobile network, MetroPCS to be the network operator's preferred map supplier for all its location based services.
MetroPCS has launched several end-user applications that use NAVTEQ map data, including MetroNavigator, a GPS-enabled navigation application. MetroNavigator is a downloadable application that enables turn-by-turn driving directions, local search and maps on GPS-enabled handsets. MetroPCS and NAVTEQ have also worked together through the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge competition where MetroPCS acted as a judge for the 2009 Americas edition.
"As wireless location services are evolving, high quality map data and content are becoming an increasingly essential value-add for consumers," says George Filley, vice president, Americas consumer sales, NAVTEQ. "NAVTEQ maps are an integral component to MetroPCS's services and we are pleased that they have put their trust in us as preferred map provider."
