Dell Rumoured to Be Planning Android Based Computers

Computer vendor, Dell - which is rumoured to be working on a range of smartphones - is also now understood to be looking at tapping Google's Android operating system for future products. Citing the usual "people familiar with the situation", the Wall Street Journal said that a small software vendor has said that it is working on an Android based netbook or mini-laptop.

The company, Bsquare said that it had developed a way to use Adobe Systems video software on "Dell netbooks running Google's Android platform."

The company later withdrew the statement and said it had been issued in error. Dell refused to comment on the specifics of the statement, but did confirm that the company is constantly reviewing technology options.

People familiar with the situation told the WSJ that the company has studied the use of Android for netbooks as well as pocket-sized computers that are sometimes called MIDs, for mobile Internet devices.
