Aptilo Selected for WiMAX Network Deployment in USA

Aptilo Networks says that it has won a contract for service management and access control solutions for a rural WiMAX deployment in the USA. The network is being commissioned by Main Street Broadband, a privately held wireless broadband service provider and strategic partner of Xiocom Wireless.

Main Street Broadband has received one of the largest (Rural Utilities Service)-funded projects in the USA. They will utilize the Aptilo WiMAX CSN System, which provides control of billing, user services and access in WiMAX networks.

"We have seen a surge in requests for WiMAX in US rural markets following the distribution of the Federal stimulus money. Aptilo's pre-integrated solution for fast deployments are ideal for ARRA-funded deployments where deployment speed is crucial," said Torbjorn Ward, Chief Executive Officer, Aptilo Networks.

The Aptilo WiMAX CSN System is fully interoperable with WiMAX-compliant clients and Access Service Network (ASN) nodes such as WiMAX 802.16-2005 based Base Stations and ASN Gateways through standards interfaces defined by The WiMAX Forum. "The development of open, interoperable solutions based on industry standards, such as Aptilo's, will help Xiocom further advance its standardized, network-centric architecture with Main Street and partners around the globe," stated Steve Erdman, Xiocom President.

The USDA Rural Development Utilities Program was established to increase economic opportunity and to improve the quality of life for rural residents. Through development loans and grants this program assists rural utilities, including Broadband Wireless Services, to expand and deploy the latest technology. Main Street Broadband, through its wholly owned subsidiary Broadband South, is one of the largest RUS-funded initiatives thus far, with US$34 million in funding received for deployment in 66 markets covering 129 rural communities in Florida and Georgia.
