Dialog Telekom Testing HSPA+ Upgrade in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Dialog Telekom is reported to have started a pilot launch of a HSPA+ (HSPA Evolution) upgrade on its network, which will boost download speeds to a peak rate of 21Mbps. The typical download speeds are closer to 8Mbps in real life tests carried out by Australia's Telstra network.

The pilot network is available at the Dialog Future World showroom in the capital city, Colombo.

Dialog Mobile's CEO, Supun Weerasinghe told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "This pilot service is a clear indication of Dialog's commitment to offer the best in technology to our customers, resulting in a user experience that is unparalleled. Wireless data applications that are smarter and offer greater flexibility will shape the future of broadband, which in turn has become a vital element of the mobile product.

Upon the successful completion of the proposed trial phase, Dialog will progressively expand its HSPA+ coverage across its 3.5G network spanning Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee and other major towns in Sri Lanka.

According to statistics from the Mobile World database, Dialog Telekom ended last year with just over 5.5 million customers, and a market share of around 50%.
