Mobilkom Austria Orders Starent Networks' 3G and LTE Solutions

Starent Networks says that it has won a contract from the mobilkom austria group for its multimedia core solution for deployment in its mobile operator member companies across Europe for UMTS and LTE mobile broadband services. Starent is working with Kapsch CarrierCom, Austria for the solution deployment.

mobilkom austria and Vipnet from Croatia will deploy the Starent solution in 2009. Other mobilkom austria group members will follow in the coming years.

mobilkom austria will initially use Starent's GGSN solution on the ST40 multimedia core platform to enable multimedia services such as video and Internet on its 3G networks. The ability to easily migrate the Starent multimedia core platform to the 4G/LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC) was a key element in the selection decision by the network operator.

"As we continue to evolve our networks to accommodate subscriber demand for high bandwidth services, we seek out industry leaders like Starent to provide us with superior technology," said Johann Pichler, Group CTO, of mag. "Additionally, the Starent solutions are software upgradeable, which will provide our operator companies with a significant competitive advantage as they migrate to 4G."

Kapsch CarrierCom is already providing several solutions to mag, such as UMTS, NGIN and R4 and will manage the deployment, integration and support of the Starent products.
