New iPhone Rumours Emerge from Canada
Following on from recent rumours that O2 UK was trying to run down stocks of the Apple iPhone in preparation for a new model, come stories that Canadian operator Fido is also carrying out a similar operation.
O2 UK has, as was rumoured lowered the price of the iPhone, but only for customers taking out a 2-year contract.
Apparently though, Fido - the low-cost network owned by Rogers Wireless is planning to discontinue sales of the 16GB iPhone model, and are gearing up to deplete their stock at the beginning of April, and will not be reordering replacement stocks.
Fueling the rumours, RBC Capital Markets analyst, Mike Abramsky recently said that he expects Apple to release a $99 iPhone this June or July- and while he didn't indicate his sources, his prediction of software upgrades for the existing iPhones has come true. He also noted that upgraded hardware variants of the iPhone should be expected, with increased screen resolution and support for HSPA data services.
