Huawei Delivers China Unicom' S First 3G Network in Zhengzhou

Huawei says that it has deployed China' s first WCDMA commercial network for China Unicom in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China. In China Unicom' s Phase One UMTS tender, Huawei was awarded the largest market share of over 30 percent based on number of transceiver to be deployed.

In February 2009, Huawei connected China Unicom' s first UMTS video call across 20 cites and expects to complete deployment of China Unicom' s entire UMTS network, which includes cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, in April 2009.

"It is a milestone in our cooperation with China Unicom. Based on the rich UMTS network deployment experience, we are confident to help China Unicom quickly deploy high-quality UMTS /HSPA networks across China. Huawei is committed to working closely with operators in the development of mobile broadband solutions and through such collaboration deliver business success for our customers." said by Wan Biao, President of Huawei' s Wireless Product Line.

According to In-Stat, Huawei secured 42 new UMTS/HSPA contracts in 2008, representing 40.4 percent of the total number of new contracts signed globally, and was ranked first for new commercial contracts won in UMTS/HSPA.
