BlackBerry Phones Arrive in Mongolia
Mongolian mobile network operator, Mobicom has announced the launch of the BlackBerry range of smartphones in the country. At launch Mobicom will offer customers the BlackBerry Bold smartphone as well as service plans for BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service.
"Customers will be able to use the BlackBerry Bold smartphonein Mongolia as well as in more than 50 countries through our over 113 global roaming relationships," said Bolor Dorjnamjil, chief executive officer, Mobicom, "We have already seen great interest for the BlackBerry solution among various companies and professionals and we are pleased to be working with Alcatel-Lucent to deliver the BlackBerry solution to our customers. Coordination between our team and the Alcatel-Lucent team has ensured the seamless integration of the BlackBerry solution into our mobile network."
Based on its distribution agreement with RIM, Alcatel-Lucent is leveraging its local presence in the region to provide Mobicom with the end-to-end implementation, integration, launch and support services for delivering the BlackBerry solution to the Mongolian market.
Based on figures from the Mobile World, Mobicom ended last September with an estimated 830,000 subscribers, and a market share of 59%. The country itself has a population penetration level of 48%.
