Egypt's Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) has a 65 per cent indirect equity ownership in the company.
Globalive Wireless expects to launch its network to consumers in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Naguib Sawiris, Chairman and CEO of OTH commented: "We are very happy that Globalive Wireless has received the final approval from Industry Canada. We are confident that the new operator will bring a wider choice and increased quality of service to Canadians. As an investor in Globalive Wireless, OTH will provide its extensive expertise in launching and supporting new mobile ventures. I am truly excited about this new operation which we will develop in line with our strategy of investing in high growth countries which provide superior returns to our shareholders."
