Nokia Siemens Wins Contracts in Czech Republic and Slovakia
Telefónica O2 has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to extend its mobile networks in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Under a three-year contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will be the sole supplier of the 2G and optionally 3G networks covering Slovakia and 2G and 3G in the Czech Republic's two major cities, Prague and Brno.
"On completing the trial of our Flexi EDGE BTS, O2 opted to go with us because they recognized that our unique design and architecture is one of the most cost efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions available in the industry today. The scope of the deal is significant as it consolidates our position as their lead supplier from now until 2011," said Thomas Riedel of Nokia Siemens Networks, in charge of business with Telefónica O2 across Europe.
Nokia Siemens Networks also will provide network implementation and maintenance services. In addition, integration services will bring the new elements into Telefónica's mobile core network, which Nokia Siemens Networks had supplied to Telefónica in the past.
