BPL Mobile Passes 2 Million Subscriber Mark

India based mobile operator, BPL Mobile - which covers just the city of Mumbai - has announced that it has passed the 2 million subscriber mark. BPL Mobile, in the past few months have substantially grown in their subscriber base, from 1.3 Million in March 2008 to 2 Million in January 2009. The net additions percentage share of BPL Mobile in the past 5 months has been at an average of 22%, much above the other operators.
In December 2008, BPL Mobile ranked No 1 in overall satisfaction amongst the GSM Operators in the city.
Commenting on reaching this milestone, Mr. Sanjeev Chachondia, CEO, BPL Mobile said, "It is an encouraging achievement which also confirms the faith our subscribers have in us. We are a dedicated team with significant growth plans to cater to the mumbaikar, through superior understanding and innovative product development. We are in the service of Mumbai for 13 years and are proud of our roots. We dedicate this milestone to this great city."
Comparative figures from the Mobile World subscriber tracker for the end of last year, report that the city had just under 17 million mobile phone users - broken down by Vodafone (4.2m), Bharti Airtel (2.74m), MTNL (2.1m), Tata (2.1m), BPL Mobile (1.95m), Idea (325,000) and 5.7 million for the CDMA operators.
