Nokia in Talks with Facebook Over Handset Integration

Published on: 12th February 2009

Internet social networking website, Facebook is reported to be in talks with a number of mobile phone manufacturers to more tightly embed access to its services within the phone menus. The Wall Street Journal also noted that Facebook is in close talks at the moment with Nokia on this topic.

Financial terms of the potential deal couldn't be learned, nor was it clear how many of Nokia's devices would be included.

The newspaper, citing people close to the negotiations said that one option would be a presence based service - synchronising the phone address book with Facebook status and allowing messages to be sent direct to the Facebook accounts.

Talks between the companies have been going on for months, and it is unclear whether an agreement will be reached, these people said.

There is a possibility that Nokia will try to develop its own social networking service, which it could then make available to network operators through its Ovi platform.
