Gemalto Offering SIM-Based Windows Live Mobile IM to Argentineans
Gemalto has announced the successful implementation of Microsoft's Instant Messenger service built into its SIM cards, and will be available for the Argentinean marketplace through Personal's new SIM cards in the coming weeks.
Since the Live Messenger application is incorporated into the SIM card, this enables Personal subscribers to use Windows Live to chat with friends and communities between mobiles, or even mobile to PC, regardless of the terminal.
Furthermore, this adaptation of the popular Microsoft product has all the same features as in a PC - viewing connected contacts, changing the message status to available, absent, busy, etc., and keeping several chat sessions open simultaneously.
"Gemalto is bringing a major innovation in the Mobile Instant Messaging market, making the service available in the SIM card and providing a user friendly experience which should create a significant breakthrough in the penetration and usage of mobile internet services in Latin America," said Fernando Oubina, Sales Manager for Gemalto Argentina. "This kind of service combines mobility and technology, besides providing a perfect user experience."
