Published on: 4th February 2009

APA-Lilongwe (Malawi) Malawi's leading mobile telecommunication company, Zain, on Wednesday announced the launch of hotspot service that offers wireless internet to enable its customers access the service where there is network coverage.

According to Zain Malawi Marketing Director Enwell Kadango the service is part of the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) which allows its customers to send and receive data across a mobile network.

"With the hotspots, we have gone a mile further in that we are offering our customers a modem with which they can use on their laptops or desktop computers in accessing internet anywhere," he said.

He said the provision of the hotspots underscored the company's commitment to ensuring that ICT is accessed by all, irrespective of where one is coming from - urban or rural areas.
