APA Lagos, (Nigeria) The Nigerian federal government plans to launch two satellites, NIGCOM SAT 2 and 3 at the cost of $500 million, the Managing Director of Nigeria Communication Satellite, Alhaji Tima Ahmed Rufai said here Monday.
Rufai told the Senate Committee on Public Accounts in Abuja, that the project would be undertaken by the China Great Wall Corporation, which launched the $51million NIGCOM SAT 1 that disappeared from orbit last year.
NIGCOM SAT 2 and 3, would be launched because of the need to have back ups to which traffic could be diverted in the event that one collapses, he said, adding that the missing NIGCOM SAT 1 would be replaced between 2010 and 2011 by the China Great Wall Corporation Limited at no cost since it was insured.
