Azerbaijani Operator Improves Network Coverage

Azerbaijan based mobile operator, Azerfon (trading as Nar Mobile) says that it has installed 93 new base stations in the capital and regions in order to increase quality of the network since the beginning of this year. The bulk of the improvement was focused in the capital city, Baku where 52 new base stations were sited.

At present, the Nar Mobile network covers 90% of the territory of Azerbaijan Republic

Azerfon was licensed by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Republic in December, 2005 to provide mobile services throughout the territory of Azerbaijan. The company launched its commercial activities in 21st of March, 2007 under brand name Nar Mobile

The Mobile World database notes that there are three GSM operators, along with one CDMA operator in the country. At the end of last September, there were an estimated 5 million subscribers in the country - representing a population penetration level of 62%.
