Nokia Ceases Production of its Only WiMAX Device
Nokia has stopped producing its only WiMAX device, the N810 WiMax Edition, after just a few months of sales. The handset was originally shown last April as an upgrade of the existing N810 which relied on Wi-Fi for its connection, and launched in October.
It was anticipated that the device would be offered on the Sprint-Clearwire WiMAX network, but the network was delayed and sales failed to follow through. Although Sprint had tested the device on its WiMAX network, the merger with Clearwire may have killed off sales hopes as the company is firmly in the Motorola camp at the moment.
Nokia said that the N810 product range had ended its natural lifespan, being in aggregate some eighteen months old.
