Android OS Seen Working on Qualcomm Snapdragon Chipsets

Device Software Optimization firm, Wind River says that it has developed software code that will help enable support for the Google backed, Android mobile software running on larger screen-sized mobile computing devices using Snapdragon chipsets from Qualcomm.

The software code will be contributed by Wind River to the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) repository in the near future.

"Wind River has long been a key member of the Open Handset Alliance, and we are now taking that participation to the next level by developing this software code to help enable support for Android on Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets," said Jason Whitmire, general manager of the Mobile segment at Wind River. "Our work will help drive the availability of Android-based mobile computing devices that run at WVGA resolution in the market by allowing device manufacturers to commercialize their products much faster and more easily."

Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets combines a 1GHz processor core and 3G connectivity with ultra-low power consumption - and is optimised for use in netbooks and mobile computing devices.
