Venezuela's Movilnet Deploys Amdocs Billing to Support New GSM Network
Movilnet, the largest mobile provider in Venezuela and a wholly-owned subsidiary of CANTV, and Amdocs have announced the deployment of Amdocs Billing to support Movilnet's new, nationwide, GSM network. The project was completed in just 13 weeks and Amdocs will also deliver ongoing product support and maintenance.
The Amdocs Billing software has supported postpaid services based on CDMA standards at Movilnet for nearly a decade. With this current deployment, Movilnet has extended its use of Amdocs Billing to enable the introduction of postpaid GSM voice and data offerings and roaming.
"We wanted to enhance our customers' experiences by offering GSM services before the holiday season, and were looking for a vendor that can deliver in an aggressive timeline," said Nicholas Solorzano, vice president of System Operations at Movilnet. "Amdocs delivered in record time and on budget. Most importantly, the deployment had no impact on daily operations and was transparent to our customers. Our 10-year relationship with Amdocs has resulted in long-term cost of ownership advantages and continues to deliver value to our customers."
"By launching GSM operations, Movilnet can capture a larger market share, as local mobile usage in LATAM continues to rise," said Michael Couture, head of Global Marketing at Amdocs. "Amdocs' customers, such as Movilnet, can extend their existing Amdocs systems to quickly introduce and monetize new networks. They can do this cost-efficiently and at a low risk to cope with competition and changes in the market."
