Tatung InfoComm Deploys Starent Networks’ Solution for its Mobile WiMAX Network
Starent Networks has won a contract from Taiwan's Tatung InfoComm for application protocol detection for subscriber service flow based QoS control with content awareness on its WiMAX network.
Tatung InfoComm acquired governmental approval to build a WiMAX network for the southern region of Taiwan in July 2007. The company is deploying Starent NetworksÃ' ST40 and ST16 multimedia core platforms for Home Agent functionality with Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway capability in both its commercial and test WiMAX networks. The system will support multiple radio vendor base stations through an open WiMAX interface architecture.
"Starent Networks has rich experience in building and deploying mobile packet core networks worldwide, and its solutions provide the high performance and high availability we require," said Peter Yen, President of Tatung InfoComm Corporation. "We are confident the Starent platform is the best solution to allow us to provide an exceptional subscriber experience with the advance services we will enable."
Starent NetworksÃ' ASN Gateway and Home Agent will enable key services for Tatung InfoComm, such as Enterprise applications, mobile VPN banking and special access services for government, police and security organization. Earlier this year, Starent was selected by TaiwanÃ's First International Telecom (Fitel) to provide similar solutions for its network, covering Northern Taiwan.
Tatung InfoComm plans to launch service in certain suburban and rural locations, such as PengHu island, by the first quarter of 2009. The company also plans to launch live services in major cities, such as Kaohsiung city, beginning in the third quarter of 2009.
