Motorola Wins Ugandan Mobile Data Optimisation Contract

Motorola says that it has won a three-year, multi-million dollar network optimization services contract with mobile operator MTN Uganda. A specific area of focus will be on improving MTNĂ's packet data network performance, throughput and capacity of the networks.

"The efficacy of our network is directly linked to the quality of service experienced by our customers. With this services contract with Motorola in place, MTN customers can expect further improvements in reliability and quality across Uganda," said Francis Kazinduki, CTO, MTN Uganda.

Earlier this year Motorola and MTN Nigeria announced a contract that tasked Motorola with improving the performance of the operatorĂ's multi-vendor network across its serving area.

"The phenomenal growth of mobile telecoms in Africa is placing new pressures and demands on operators' existing network infrastructure, which require new solutions that go beyond conventional planning and management techniques in order to improve service experience," said Eric Pradier, vice president, Motorola Global Services EMEA.

MTN Uganda is the country's largest mobile operator - and figures from the Mobile World database shows that the firm ended September with just over 3.2 million customers - representing a market share of about 42%.
