Ex-Vodafone CEO, Arun Sarin Shortlisted to Take Top Job at Yahoo
Former Vodafone CEO, Arun Sarin is one of a shortlist of possible contenders to take the top job at struggling internet firm, Yahoo - reports the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter.
"Among those being considered is Arun Sarin, who retired as chief executive of Vodafone Group PLC in July, according to people familiar with the matter," the WSJ said.
After heading the world's largest mobile firm by valuation for five years, Arun Sarin stepped down from the company in July this year to return to California.
Yahoo lost its CEO and co-founder Jerry Yang last month following pressure over slumping market share to rival Google. Yang's decision to step down followed months of criticism from various quarters on a range of issues including his move to shun Microsoft's US$47 billion buyout offer.
Yahoo has engaged executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles to find a new CEO.
A Yahoo spokesman declined to comment. Mr. Sarin couldn't be reached to comment Monday night.
Sarin has also served as a director of The Gap, The Charles Schwab Corporation and Cisco Systems in the United States, and was appointed as a non-executive director of the Court of the Bank of England.
