Ericsson Wins Slovakian Network Core Contract

Ericsson has been chosen as sole supplier by T-Mobile Slovakia for mobile core IP infrastructure. The contract, which includes Redback's SmartEdge products, will boost network capacity and manage increased traffic growth.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will provide services including, network design, implementation, systems integration and support. Deployment has started and is scheduled for completion before the end of the year.

A key feature of Ericsson's Mobile-PBN solution is router technology from Redback Networks, an Ericsson company. The Redback SmartEdge router platform is the only multi-access edge router that employs a single network box to deliver any combination of data, voice and video services across both fixed and mobile networks. It will enable T-Mobile Slovakia to deliver reliable and predictable performance for real-time voice and broadband services.

Farshid Ebrahimi-Ghajar, CTO at T-Mobile Slovakia, says: "Ericsson's technology leadership and end-to-end capabilities will enable T-Mobile Slovakia to increase network capacity for delivery of high-quality multimedia services. We are delighted to partner with Ericsson in our move toward a next-generation all-IP network."

The Slovakian market is effectively a duopoly, with T-Mobile Slovakia and Orange dominating, while O2 comes a very distant third. According to figures from the Mobile World database, T-Mobile Slovakia ended September with some 2.32 million subscribers - representing a market share of around 42%.
