Thee Australia Passes 2 Million Subscriber Landmark
Hutchison Telecoms Australia (Three) has announced that it has connected its 2 millionth customer just five years after introducing 3 to Australia - in April 2003.
Nigel Dews, CEO of 3 said, "This is a significant milestone for 3, and we are very proud to welcome our 2 millionth customer onboard. Since introducing 3G to Australia, weÃ've seen many changes in the way our customers use their mobile phones, from watching live cricket to accessing the internet. IÃ'm very pleased with our growth and thank all of our customers for choosing 3."
3Ã's 2 millionth customer will receive a lifetimeÃ's supply of mobile broadband on 3Ã's network.
During the first half of 2008, the mobile operator's customers generated 82.6 million internet access and Planet 3 events and 65% of 3Ã's customers paid for these services each month.
The company rebranded its older Orange CDMA network as 3 in February 2006 and migrated its entire subscriber base over to the 3G network. The CDMA network was shut down in August 2006.
