CDG Talking to India About 450Mhz Spectrum Auction
The CDMA Development Group (CDG) is reported to be in talks with the Indian government to promote an auction of radio spectrum in the 450Mhz bands. The move could be a significant boost for CDMA based networks, especially in rural areas.
Currently the government is planning to limits the networks to 800Mhz, and may release additional capacity in the 1900Mhz band in the future.
"We are in talks with the Indian government on this issue. As far as we are given to understand, radio frequencies in the 450 MHz may be available within the next couple of months," CDGĂ's chief operating officer James S Person told the Economic Times newspaper.
He added that there had been significant progress on the talks with the Indian government - but no time frame was hinted at for any future auctions.
According to the CDG website, CDMA450 cellular services have been deployed in the following counries - Belarus, China, Cech Repulic, Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Mongolia, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
