Mozambique, Brazil to Cooperate in Telecoms Industry
APA-Maputo (Mozambique) Mozambique and Brazil on Monday agreed to cooperate in the scientific development of telecommunications over the next three years, launching bilateral ties between the sectorÃ's regulators from the two nations in the process.
This was spelled out in a memorandum of understanding signed between the Instituto Nacional das Comunicações de Moçambique (INCM) and Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (Anatel), of Brazil, marking the start of a new era for the two sides.
INCM Chief Executive Officer Salomão Manhiça told APA on Monday that the cooperation would cover the areas of projects, convergence of services, economic regulation, new low-cost international roaming technologies, as well as the efficient use of bandwidth and certification of telecommunications equipment, among other areas.
He noted the importance this relationship would have for both sides, saying that this was the second agreement between the two institutions since 2001.
"Mozambican technicians could be trained in Brazil and that missions would likely be organised to exchange knowledge and experiences", he said.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva last month visited Mozambique to re-launch a new era of cooperation with Mozambique in areas such as agriculture, health and mining.
Mozambique is aggressively luring foreign investors to rebuild its economy shattered by a crippling war and a series of national disasters shortly afterwards.
