Mobilkom Austria Starts 3G Femtocell Trial
Mobilkom austria says that it has started a femto router pilot project in Central Europe with 35 selected residential and business customers throughout Austria. A femto router creates an individual indoor 3G network based on Telekom AustriaÃ's fixed line infrastructure - the individual 3G network is connected to mobilkom austriaÃ's 3G network via Telekom AustriaÃ's aonSpeed or DSL fixed line network for voice and data transfer.
Hannes Ametsreiter, CMO mobilkom austria and Telekom Austria, said: "With the first femto router pilot project with real customers in Central Europe, mobilkom austriaÃ's A1 brand is offering a simple and cost-effective solution to both Austrian residential and business customers with special requirements for indoor coverage. In addition, we are providing quick and secure network indoor coverage to Austrian buildings that mobile technology canÃ't effectively reach due to their particular architecture."
The hotel chain Austria Trend Hotels & Resorts der Verkehrsbüro Group and the Vienna ARZ computing center will be among the first customers within the pilot project to use this technology with the objective to improve their indoor coverage.
All components of the femto router are centrally managed by mobilkom austria with no additional maintenance requirements for the customers.
The pilot project is using two different models provided by Huawei. One model is tailored to the needs of business customers and offers coverage for up to 16 mobile phones and data cards. The second model is designed for residential customers and provides coverage for up to four mobile phones and data cards. mobilkom austriaÃ's pilot-project will run until 2Q 2009, with the final product to be launched onto the market in the first half of 2009.
