ViVOtech Provided NFC Provisioning Software for Phones Enabled with Visa PayWave
Published on: 4th November 2008
Silicon Valley-based ViVOtech announced today that its provisioning software for Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile payments is being used in the first NFC mobile payment trial in Latin America led by Visa, in Guatemala. This deployment marks Latin America's first NFC-based mobile payment pilot and use of Visa payWave-enabled mobile handsets at hundreds of merchants that have installed the ViVOpay 5000 contactless payment readers in Guatemala.
ViVOtech's readers and NFC provisioning software were deployed in the mobile Visa payWave pilot launched by Visa, in partnership with Compaƒ±ƒa de Procesamiento de Medios de Pago de Guatemala (known as Visanet Guatemala), Banco Industrial, and Banco Uno and is expected to last 6 months. Mobile payments will be available to more than 200 Visa cardholders whose credit card data will be migrated onto the cell phone, allowing them to use the Visa payWave feature.
"We're thrilled that Visa is using ViVOtech's contactless and NFC provisioning software to deliver advanced NFC payment services in Latin America," said Michael Mullagh, ViVOtech CEO. "NFC mobile payments have the potential to greatly increase the reach of banking and financial services into large under-banked populations that have hundreds of millions of mobile users."
