Morocco to Award 3rd Mobile Operating License
In a short statement from the Moroccan telecoms regulator - the Agence Nationale de Réglementation des Télécommunications - it has announced plans to award a 3rd mobile phone license in the country. No technical details were provided save to note that the license would be restricted to 2G services - presumably GSM or CDMA.
Although the license is for 2G services only - the two incumbent mobile networks, Maroc Telecom and Medi Telecom were themselves granted a 3G license in May 2006.
According to estimates from the Mobile World subscriber tracker, the country ended the first half of this year with around 21.4 million mobile phone users - representing a population penetration level of 62.5%.
Interested parties can order the tender documents direct from the regulator before 3rd Nov for a payment of forty thousand (40,000) dirhams.
