Q3 Mobile Base Station Contracts Remain Strong As Chinese Vendors Stay on Top
EJL Wireless Research has reported that during the 3rd quarter, base station contracts totaled 67, decreasing from 68 in Q2.
"Huawei secured 43% of total contract awards during the September 30, 2008 ended quarter, beating ZTE which had 25%. Chinese OEMs captured 69% of overall contracts while each major base station vendor secured at least one win during the quarter. We note that unannounced contracts from Nokia Siemens Networks in Q3, while not officially counted in our database at this point in time, totaled 48 and would have put NSN at the top of the list ahead of Huawei with 58 contracts. Overall contracts would have increased to 115 in Q3," says founder and President, Earl Lum.
"Demand remained heavily concentrated in both Asia Pacific and Africa during the quarter. Chinese OEMs continue to dominate the CDMA2000 segment as they captured 90% of global contracts in Q3," says Lum.
