Etisalat Upgrading to HSDPA+

UAE based mobile operator, Etisalat has confirmed that it is planning an upgrade of its network to support HSPA+ services. The upgrade should be ready by the second or third quarter of 2009, Marwan Mohammed Al Qadi, Acting Senior Manager, product Marketing at Etisalat told AME Info.

HSPA+ should support mobile data download speeds of up to 21 Mbps.

Currently, the only other operator deploying a HSPA+ upgrade is Australia's Telstra - which anticipates a service launch by the end of this year.

Mike Wright, Executive Director Telstra Wireless, recently attended the world's first live demonstration of the HSPA+ interoperability at Ericsson headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. The interoperability test was performed on a wireless infrastructure network solution from Ericsson using Qualcomm's MDM8200 product, the industry's first chipset solution to support HSPA+ (also known as eHSPA) devices.
