Sierra Wireless' Mobile Modems to Support 21 Mbps Download Speeds
Mobile modem manufacturer, Sierra Wireless says that it is gearing up to start production of HSPA+ compatible modems - which will support download speeds of up to 21 Mbps. Australian operator, Telstra is currently rolling out a HSPA+ upgrade and aims to launch the service before the end of this year.
Sierra Wireless says that it is working with Qualcomm, and Ericsson for the hardware.
Mr Ross Fielding, Executive Director, Telstra Product Management said Telstra said "Working with our partners, Sierra Wireless, Qualcomm and Ericsson, we are developing the world's first 21Mbps capable mobile broadband device, which will take advantage of the speed, coverage and capabilities of the Next G network, giving our customers an unrivalled broadband experience when on the move, across a network that covers over two million square kilometers and 99 per cent of the Australian population."
Mike Wright, Executive Director Telstra Wireless, recently attended the world's first live demonstration of the HSPA+ interoperability at Ericsson headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. The interoperability test was performed on a wireless infrastructure network solution from Ericsson using Qualcomm's MDM8200 product, the industry's first chipset solution to support HSPA+ (also known as eHSPA) devices.
