Stockholm Underground Railway to Get Mobile Coverage

Axell Wireless says that it has been awarded the contract to deliver a turnkey wireless coverage solution for the Stockholm Metro railway. The contract encompasses supply, installation and commissioning of the equipment which includes fibre- optic repeaters, optical master units, combiners, antennas, and power supplies along with installation of radiating cable in the ticket halls and above the escalators.

The solution, which includes a completely redundant system to minimise the effects of a system malfunction, will also include a future option for CDMA450 networks.

Axell Wireless will also provide service and maintenance of the system for a period of 10 years.

All of the equipment is being manufactured at the Axell Wireless production facility in the UK, from where it will be delivered in three phases; the equipment will be installed in around 72 metro stations. The rail network has 100 stations in use, of which 47 are subterranean and 53 are above ground (surface and elevated) stations.

The delivery time-plan is very concentrated as everything needs to be delivered, commissioned and handed over to SL at the beginning of March 2009.

Axell Wireless was formed in 2007 after the merger between Avitec AB of Sweden and Aerial Facilities Limited (AFL) of the UK.
