MTN Buys Landline Operator and ISP in Ivory Coast

South Africa based MTN has brought two firms in the Côte dÃ'Ivoire for an undisclosed amount. MTN said in a statement that the acquisition of the two companies was in line with its stated strategy to provide integrated communications solutions in all its markets.

Arobase Telecom is a land-line operator and also has a CDMA operators license. The company placed an order with Alvarion for WiMAX infrastructure covering the capital city back in mid-2005.

The second company, Afnet is one of the leading Internet service providers in Côte dÃ'Ivoire and offered wireless broadband technology and data services to the general public.

"These acquisitions reflect the progress we are making towards consolidating our business. We believe both Afnet and Arobase will add value to MTN and support our strategy to ensure that the group is well positioned to benefit from a rapidly converging technology market," said MTN group president and CEO Phuthuma Nhleko.
