Motorola Wins Pakistani WiMAX Contract
Motorola has signed a multi-year WiMAX contract with wi-tribe Pakistan, the all-new wireless broadband Internet provider to enter the country. wi-tribe Pakistan Limited is a joint venture between Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Saudi ArabiaĆ's A.A. Turki Group of Companies (ATCO).
"WiMAX is changing the way people are connecting and is opening doors to a new world of opportunities," said Mohammad Sadiq, CEO of wi-tribe Pakistan limited. "We will be offering high-speed Internet that is simple, affordable, and a portable alternative to fixed broadband. The Motorola WiMAX solution frees customers from the fixed line services."
Motorola will begin deploying wi-tribeĆ's WiMAX network from this month in the 3.5GHz spectrum, with a commercial launch during 2009.
Financial details were not provided. This is Motorola's third WiMAX contract in the country, the first being a turnkey end-to-end nationwide WiMAX/IMS network awarded in 2006 and the second being with Mobilink for the main cities.
wi-tribe had previously used Airspan for its WiMAX network in Jordan, which launched in June this year.
