Open Mobile Terminal Platform Joins the W3C
OMTP, the mobile operator sponsored organisation developing open standards for mobile phones announced that it has joined the W3C in order to further the work of its BONDI project, an initiative aimed at opening up access to mobile device functions securely, to web based services.
Following the announcement of the BONDI initiative, OMTP have joined the World Wide Web Consortium as a member. This membership of W3C will allow OMTP to make submissions directly into the key W3C activities affecting BONDI. These will, for example, include work within the W3C Web Applications working group helping to standardise widgets.
By working with W3C, the OMTP says that it will be able to help deliver consistency and security and assist in making web services ubiquitous across different handsets.
Tim Raby, Managing Director of OMTP said "W3C activities are vital in driving forward standardisation in the important area of the mobile web. By joining W3C, OMTP and its members will have the ability to more directly influence and provide direction for the W3C Mobile Web Initiatives which relate to our BONDI activities."
