Malaysian Operator Offers Free Medical Insurance Policies
Malaysian mobile operator, DiGi has launched a promotion which offers free medical insurance to all its contract subscribers who have had a mobile phone for over three months. The deal offers RM10,000 (US$2,900) personal accident (PA) coverage insured by AIG General Insurance. The service will be made available via SMS activation minus the hassle of complicated forms and need to deal with agents.
Johan Dennelind, chief executive officer of DiGi said: "This latest offering allows us to raise the bar on user experience by actively engaging and adding value where it means most to our subscribers. Realizing the low percentage of insured Malaysians, we took the opportunity to draw relevant synergies with a reputable partner to make insurance coverage easy and accessible to subscribers who normally would not get insured via traditional channels."
He further explains: "Leveraging on our reach and ubiquitous use of mobile phones enable us to be a conduit that bridges subscribers and the insurer. DiGi is pleased to innovate beyond telecommunications particularly in traditionally-bound industries such as insurance to create a new way for people to get insured.
"The free PA coverage will be underwritten by our reputable provider, AIG General Insurance, who will also be offering customer support on this product and claims," added Dennelind.
Brad Bennett, chief executive officer of AIG General Insurance commented that: "This relationship has redefined the market reach of insurance in Malaysia where market penetration is still low especially in the PA & Healthcare insurance sector. Not only has DiGi added value to their subscribers by providing PA insurance through AIG General Insurance, but they have also created a new frontier for distribution of insurance products."
