Telefónica O2 Slovakia Says Now Operating 800 Base Stations

Telefónica O2 Slovakia says that it is now operating more than 800 GSM base stations, meeting a condition of its operating license. Its network is currently covering by signal 88 percent of population, which is nearly 2-times more than required by the license.

The company was originally granted its GSM and 3G license in August 2006.

"We want to provide our customers with services of the highest quality. Building of our own network is the companyÃ's long-term strategic objective and its building is constantly continuing. Besides our own network, we will further on use also the national roaming," stated Martin Ã… kop, the Chief Network Officer of Telefónica O2 Slovakia.

The main supplier of technology for the network is Nokia Siemens Networks.

Alongside its own network, O2 continues use national roaming via the T-Mobile network.

According to figures from the Mobile World subscriber tracker, O2 Slovakia ended the first half of this year with just under 275,000 subscribers - representing a market share of 5%.
