New CEO for Tesco Telecom
Tesco - the UK supermarket chain with a side-line as a MVNO and other telecoms services - has appointed a new CEO, Lance Batchelor to manage the company. In his new role, Batchelor will oversee the development and commercial success across all parts of the Tesco Telecoms business, which includes Tesco Mobile (its mobile network), internet access, internet phone, home phone and sales of landlines, mobile phones and accessories.
Batchelor joined Tesco over a year ago as UK Marketing Director. He was previously UK Marketing and Commercial Director at Vodafone for four years and worked for online retailer Amazon as Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager.
The expanding Tesco Mobile network recently relaunched its brand with the unveiling of a new identity aimed at attracting a broader range of Tesco customers. The bold new look and feel signals Tesco MobileĆ's credibility as a network operator, five years old this year.
LanceĆ's appointment is a part of the strategy by Tesco to grow its share in the fast growing services markets including financial services, telecoms and internet/home shopping. Tesco believes such services could deliver £1 billion in profits per annum - more than double current levels of just under £400m.
Batchelor comments, "I am excited to come on board at such a promising time for Tesco Telecoms. Not only are we growing our store and online presence, but our commitment to value offerings is becoming increasingly relevant as consumers are demanding a better deal."
