Canada to Held Cameroon Build 300 Community Phone Shops
APA-Douala (Cameroon) Canada has pledged to support Cameroon in building 300 community phone shops for 2,000 villages by 2015, official sources told APA here on Wednesday.
CameroonÃ's Posts and Telecoms minister Maïgari Bello Bouba and Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon Jean-Pierre Lavoie signed the accord, which is expected to create thousand jobs for rural populations.
Bouba said the Canadian aid comes against the backdrop of Cameroonian authoritiesÃ' efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote the information society for the benefit of all the people.
This private initiative supports a Cameroonian government programme which has constructed a score of multimedia centres in rural areas.
The government is targeting a minimum internet coverage of 30 per cent for the population by 2015, against a mere seven percent currently.
