China Mobile to Integrate Existing 2G Network into 3G Network

HONG KONG -(Dow Jones)- China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd. said Wednesday it will assist its parent in building a network for China's homegrown third-generation telecommunications standard, with which it plans to integrate its existing 2G network.

The company, China's largest mobile carrier by subscribers, said in a statement it is working with its parent in preparing for the full introduction of 3G operations.

China Mobile Communications Corp., the parent company of Hong Kong-listed China Mobile Ltd., is running commercial trial networks of the homegrown wireless standard - Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access, or TD-SCDMA - in 10 cities, including Beijing.

TD-SCDMA is intended as a Chinese alternative to two international 3G standards already in wide use around the world, Wideband CDMA and CDMA2000.
