China Mobile Records 490,000 Phone Calls During Olympic Ceremonies

A China Mobile spokesman has said that nearly half a million phone calls were made on its GSM network around the Olympic stadium during the opening and closing ceremonies. Almost 24,000 users made calls in and around the National Stadium, the Bird's Nest, during Sunday night's closing ceremony. The figure included about 20,000 international roaming service users.

During the August 8th opening ceremony, China Mobile registered more than 250,000 international roaming service users, said the spokesman.

The company says that it achieved a 100 percent connection rate and only 0.27 percent of calls were dropped by the network.

Overall, some 1.2 million China Mobile users watched the games on their mobile phones and 13 million users received Olympic newsletters.

The company also tested its TD-SCDMA network in Beijing and the other Olympic cities - including donating some 15,000 3G phones to Olympic officials.

Very unlikely

Over 80% of people making calls at the closing ceremony were using international roaming phones? That sounds seriously unlikely to me, considering that the vast majority of people at the ceremony were Chinese. If this isn't a translation error, China Mobile are talking nonsense.

Mobile phone development

Yes, the traffic is quite huge of the voice call during the olympic, and almost all call get the good connectivity. The only point make surprised people is that there are not so much of the 3G mobile phone service. Many people expect the china telecom would broadcast the olympic game video clip, realtime interview with the gold winner and broadcast in mobile phone channel, more visual call or often login online wiht moble phone to update the status of the olympic games. however, else of the internet portal, china telecom didn't do any for it. they just ensure the smooth running of their services.

Impressive

The stats showed that mobile phone has become one of the most preferred tools for relating significant news and information to intended audience. It's no surprise if most of these mobile phone owners were journalist and news anchors.
