MTN Yemen Offers Voice Via SMS Service

MTN Yemen has selected a Voice via SMS (VVS) solution from Apliman Technologies, which offers a 'speak and Listen' messaging method that allows a subscriber to exchange short customer to customer audio messages.

"We looked to Apliman Technologies to provide our Voice SMS solution. This would take MTN Yemen a step closer to providing real customer benefit," said Mr. Walid Akkaoui, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Yemen.

MTN Yemen was established in September 2000 as a GSM company under the brand name Spacetel Yemen - which was part of Investcom group.

The company ended Q1 '08 with some 1.6 million customers - according to figures from the Mobile World subscriber database. This represents a market share of around 34%. The country itself has four active mobile networks, with two moribund operators, and a population penetration level of just over 20%.
