Afghan Operator Launches Youth Tariff

Afghanistan mobile operator, Roshan has launched a new tariff which the company says is designed and customized for Afghan youth. The new SIM named Yaraan, meaning "best friend" in both Dari and Pashto, offers free off-peak calls after the second minute and discounted rates on SMS messages, along with the benefits of per-second-billing and an inbound call bonus to those in the Yaraan community.

Yaraan is now available at all Roshan shops and dealers nationwide.

"The Yaraan SIM was created with youth in mind. In Afghanistan, youth under 20 make up more than 55% of the population. With Yaraan, this Afghan demographic now has a competitive, affordable and attractive tariff on the Roshan network. The new product is another example of how Roshan continues to be the innovative telecommunications market leader in Afghanistan," said Altaf Ladak, RoshanÃ's chief operating officer.

During the productÃ's trial launch over the past several weeks, Roshan says that it has already received a tremendously positive response from Afghan youth on the new tariff.

Roshan (Telecom Development Company Afghanistan) ended the first quarter with a market share of just over a third according to figures from the Mobile World subscriber database. The company recently passed its 2 million customer landmark.
