Alaska Communications Systems Launches Rev A Technology

Alaska Communications Systems (ACS) says that it has launched EV-DO Rev A Mobile Internet technology on its network. ACS was the first communications provider to offer Alaska high-speed mobile data through its 3G CDMA network in 2004. Airvana was originally contracted to provide equipment for a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO trial network in 2003.

ACS roams on Rev A in much of Canada and expects to initiate Rev A roaming later this year in the rest of the USA.

ACS recently won a six-year contractual agreement with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), to provide all voice and data services to federal agencies throughout Alaska. This is the third GSA contract awarded to ACS in the last three years.

ACS closed its legacy TDMA Wireless phone service last September.
