Indosat Orders Mobile Softswitch from Nokia Siemens
Indonesia's Indosat has ordered a mobile softswitch from Nokia Siemens Networks as part of its move to an all-IP network infrastructure. Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide a broad range of services including replacement and relocation of old equipment, network design, new equipment implementation and project management as well as training and maintenance for all products and solutions included in the deal.
No financial details were provided - indeed the announcement from the two companies contained virtually no usable information at all.
Last April, Alcatel-Lucent picked up a multi-year contract to deploy a GSM/EDGE network in the country's rural areas for Indosat, while Ericsson won an urban 3G expansion contract in greater Jakarta.
Last month, Qatar Telecom took a 40.8% stake in the company, after paying US$1.8 billion to Asia Mobile Holdings.
