Orange Launches a BIC Branded Mobile Phone
France Telecom's Orange has teamed up with disposable consumer goods firm, Bic to launch a branded mobile phone. The prepay phone is being sold as "ready to go" and is designed to be a basic model with just voice calls and text messaging.
The handset has been manufactured by Alcatel and the operator plans to sell it for €49 including taxes.
The BIC phone offer includes 60 free minutes, valid for 2 months from the time the phone is activated, although purchasers will need to register their details with Orange to claim the full allowance.
The telephone number, which is included in the pack, is valid for at least 12 months from the time the phone is activated - which is a change from Orange's normal procedure for calculating if a handset is "active" or not.
The company aims to sell the phone in convenience stores and supermarkets as opposed to specialist mobile phone retailers.
