Nokia Siemens Wins High Speed GSM-R Contract

Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract to provide, operate and maintain a complete GSM-R network for SpainÃ's rail administration ADIF to cover some 450 kilometers of the newly constructed high-speed tracks linking Madrid with the cities of Valencia and Albacete. Nokia Siemens Networks remains the sole mobile communications supplier for ADIF high-speed lines designed for trains known as AVE.

"The experience jointly gathered by ADIF and Nokia Siemens Networks, who share the same objectives of deploying the projects in the required time and maintaining the network in perfect condition, is what allows us to offer excellent transportation to passengers with a very high level of safety and efficiency required of such type of installations," said Mariano Moyano, Installations Executive Director at ADIF.

The system will provide communications for trains running at up to 350 km/h.

Nokia Siemens Networks has been working in partnership with ADIF, implementing GSM-R on the remaining 1,700 km that make up the high-speed railway network in Spain since 2003, when it brought the first high-speed GSM-R application online in Spain.

Nokia Siemens Networks will operate the network on behalf of ADIF and provide network maintenance with round-the-clock monitoring, remote or on-site troubleshooting as well as user administration.
