Huawei Wins Pakistan WiMAX Contract

Huawei has been selected by Pakistan GSM operator, Mobilink to deploy a commercial WiMAX 16e network. The network will cover central business districts and hot spots in the country’s six major cities, including Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Under the terms of the contract, Huawei will provide Mobilink with a complete WiMAX solution including distributed base stations, an access service network-Gateway and a network management system.

In related news, last November, DragonWave announced that it would be providing it's Horizon Compact IP backhaul product to provide 270 wireless backhaul links for Mobilink's nationwide WiMAX network.

No financial or rollout details were provided.

In June 2006, Huawei won a GSM network contract for Mobile Softswitches.
