Telecom Italia Says iPhone 3G in TIM Retail Stores July 11

MILAN -(Dow Jones)- Italian telecoms operator Telecom Italia said Tuesday the highly anticipated third-generation version of Apple's iPhone will be available at its TIM retail stores July 11.

In a statement, Telecom Italia said that, as of Tuesday, iPhone 3G has been successfully certified to operate on the company's network.

Telecom Italia said iPhone 3G combines all the features of iPhone with 3G networking, which is twice as fast as that of the first generation iPhone, along with built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services.

From July 11, iPhone 3G will be available in over 2,600 TIM retail outlets, the company said.

For prepaid customers, the 8 gigabyte iPhone 3G model will be available for EUR499 and the 16GB iPhone 3G model for EUR569.

For contract customers, the 8GB iPhone 3G will be offered in subscription packages with an initial cost ranging up to EUR199, depending on the tariff plan chosen.

Telecom Italia said all offers will include at least 1GB of Internet traffic per month.
